Negligible Unforced Historical Pattern Effect on Climate Feedback Strength Found in HadISST-Based AMIP Simulations

چکیده

Abstract Recently it has been suggested that natural variability in sea surface temperature (SST) patterns over the historical period causes a low bias estimates of climate sensitivity based on instrumental records, addition to by time variation feedback parameter atmospheric general circulation models (GCMs) coupled dynamic oceans. This excess, unforced, “pattern effect” (the effect evolving strength) found simulations performed using GCMs driven AMIPII SST and ice changes (amipPiForcing). Here we show, both amipPiForcing experiments with one GCM Green’s functions derived from another GCM, whether such an unforced pattern is depends underlying dataset used. When replacing usual SSTs those HadISST1 experiments, unaltered, first indicates effects are indistinguishable forced corresponding GCM. Diagnosis second supports this result for five out six non-AMIPII reconstruction datasets. Moreover, internal rarely sufficient account even one-quarter strength previously reported. The presented evidence that, if have as small record our findings suggest, they unlikely significantly long-term observations obtained GCMs.

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Spontaneous abrupt climate change due to an atmospheric blocking-sea-ice-ocean feedback in an unforced climate model simulation.

Abrupt climate change is abundant in geological records, but climate models rarely have been able to simulate such events in response to realistic forcing. Here we report on a spontaneous abrupt cooling event, lasting for more than a century, with a temperature anomaly similar to that of the Little Ice Age. The event was simulated in the preindustrial control run of a high-resolution climate mo...

Atmospheric dynamics feedback: concept, simulations and climate

The regional climate response to radiative forcing is largely controlled by changes in the atmospheric circulation. It has also been suggested that global climate sensitivity depends on the circulation response, an effect we call the “atmospheric dynamics feedback”. Using a technique to isolate the effect of changes in atmospheric circulation on top-of-atmosphere (TOA) radiation, we calculate t...

Spatial Climate Patterns Explain Negligible Variation in Strength of Compensatory Density Feedbacks in Birds and Mammals

The use of long-term population data to separate the demographic role of climate from density-modified demographic processes has become a major topic of ecological investigation over the last two decades. Although the ecological and evolutionary mechanisms that determine the strength of density feedbacks are now well understood, the degree to which climate gradients shape those processes across...
